How to Measure Your Outboard Motor
Measure the motor cowling—the housing around the top of your outboard motor—with it installed in its normal position. Measure the cowling itself, not an existing cover.
Measure only the top housing. Do not include the shaft, mounting bracket, lower unit, or propeller.
01 / WIDTH
Measure Side to Side
Measure straight across the widest part of the cowling, from its outermost left edge to its outermost right edge. Include any part of the housing that extends farther outward. Keep the measurement straight rather than wrapping the tape around the curved surface.
02 / LENGTH
Measure Front to Back
Measure the cowling at its longest point, from the farthest edge at the front to the farthest edge at the back. Include any projecting section of the housing. Measure the straight horizontal distance, not the curve over the top.
03 / HEIGHT
Measure the Cowling Height
Measure vertically from the bottom edge of the cowling to its highest point. Keep the tape straight and include the full height of the top housing. Do not measure down to the mounting bracket, shaft, or propeller.
Choose Your Cover Size
Record all three measurements. If measuring in inches, round each measurement up to the next whole inch. Compare width, length, and height separately with the cover dimensions listed on the product page.
Use the horsepower range as a starting point, then confirm the fit using your cowling measurements. Motors with the same horsepower can have different housing shapes and sizes.
If your measurements fall between sizes, or your cowling has an unusual shape, review the product’s fit details before ordering. Make sure the selected cover accommodates all three dimensions.
